The collar features a hook on the tab and a chin strap equipped with a buckle and buttons. To prevent damage from the metal prong of the hand-covered leather buckles, the belt and chin strap eyelets are reinforced with metal grommets; these are also found on the cuff straps. The belt features metal D-rings, which were originally used to attach hand grenades, and the buttoned epaulettes on the shoulders allowed for securing the straps of binoculars, muskets, canteens, and anything else that needed to be kept secure during a rapid enemy attack.
