These were used to secure the straps of muskets, canteens, and all the items that needed to be carried on the shoulders and could have been lost during an attack. On the belt, there are metal rings; today they are mostly used as stoppers to hold the belt in place and prevent it from sliding through the loops, but their true military purpose was as attachment points for hand grenades. The leather buckle is hand-covered in leather, and the metal eyelets around the belt holes ensure the durability of the grommets. The shoulder cape on the front allows the garment to be buttoned beneath it all the way to the top, ensuring protection from the rain, while the chin strap closes the neckline and tightens it against wind and rain.
