The Nelson, in its shorter version, is a true double-breasted military trench coat, with very tight sleeves that allow for ease of movement, as a military garment should. Metal rings are attached to the belt; today they are mostly used as belt stops and prevent it from sliding through belt loops, but their true military use was to attach hand grenades. The leather buckle is hand-covered in leather, and the metal trim around the belt holes ensures the eyelets' longevity. The small cape on the front shoulder allows the garment to be buttoned up underneath, ensuring it stays closed from the rain. A chin strap closes the neckline and keeps it tight against wind and rain. The coat is made of a very tight technical gabardine and is unlined, with the internal seams finished with contrasting ribbons. The coat also features a removable padded lining in quilted technical fabric. The detachable jacket is attached using our historic buttoning method, which does not include buttonholes but leaves engineered spaces in the perimeter seam of the garment to accommodate the buttons.
